"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots, the other, wings." Hodding Carter, JOURNALIST Our Inspiration... Throughout human history, men and women have set off on journeys of exploration as scientists, writers, and adventurers. Both have endured hardships and overwhelming physical challenges, but women, unlike their male counterparts, have had to overcome the added burden of societal limitations. Despite these obstacles, women have made many significant contributions through their bold and thoughtful discoveries. It is from them, that WWQ draws its inspiration. Our Mission... The mission of WWQ is to celebrate and support extraordinary women explorers and to promote scientific exploration, education, conservation and communication in order to motivate and inspire future generations. What we do... Women of Discovery Awards: The heart of our mission. Since 2003, WWQ has celebrated and honored women explorers from around the world. Flag Expeditions; Every year, WWQ flags are carried into the field on expeditions of merit, representing Wings dedication to the advancing scientific exploration. Explorers Archive; A unique, searchable database of women who have contributed to world knowledge through exploration, throughout time and across cultures. Expeditions Archive; An expanding database that documents hundreds of expeditions, past and present, lead by the women in our Explorers Archive. Library; WWQ is responding to the need for a centralized and comprehensive bibliographic reference collection documenting the accomplishments of these adventurous women. Education Programs; WWQ brings the excitement of exploration to people of all age across the globe through our expanding menu of programs and materials. The Art of Exploration; In partnership with Imagination Celebration of Fort Worth, Texas, WWQ created this dynamic program of workshops, lectures, films and art which introduces young people to inspiring explorers and artists.
