Biography
Anne Doubilet is an underwater explorer, writer and photographer. She has logged thousands of dives worldwide teaming up with National Geographic Magazine on over 30 stories about the sea. She has worked in the Red Sea, Papua New Guinea, Palau, Hawaii, Japan, the Galapagos, all around Australia's coasts, and throughout the Caribbean. Anne is a member of the Women Divers Hall of Fame and holds a Subba Schools International Platinum Pro card for completing over 5,000 dives.
She is a member of the National Arts Club and serves on the board of Wings Worldquest, an organization that awards grants to extraodinary women explorers in support of their field work. Anne is also a Fellow and boar member of the Explorers Club, an international group with a one hundred year legacy of the who's who in exploration.
Corals photographed by Anne 30 years ago have all vanished. Icebergs she shot in August 2007 are rapidly melting. These shocking changes in our lifetime have convinced her of the urgency to use photography for conservation and awareness. She is now dedicated to showing the underwater world with all its beauty and fragility to the next generation. Her daughter, Emily Dara Doubilet, also an experienced diver and explorer, holds a degree in Environmental Studies from Oberlin College.
Author and contributing photographer of the children's book, Under the Sea from A to Z, published by Random House, Anne’s work has also appeared in The Explorers Journal and various National Geographic Society publications. In May 2007, Anne carried flags from both Wings Worldquest and The Explorers Club on a diving expedition to Papua New Guinea, led by world-renowned ichthyologist Dr. Genie Clark, to study the poisonous catfish (Plotosus lineatus).
Ms. Doubilet is the founder of ALD Consulting in Manhattan specializing in book editing, photo exhibits and video-media projects.
